Description
The slightly curved imported(probably German) single edged blade has a single fuller and is stamped on both sides with six stars and a moon. The brass guard has an elongated piercing on each side of the blade and a forward curved quillon. There are two branches on the right side.
The cast and chased grotesque lion’s head pommel has an integral brass backstrap. The grip is wrapped with braided rope and has a brass ferrule at the base. The sword has a portion of its original leather scabbard with cross-hatched designs and a brass throat mount with stud. CONDITION: Blade retains a bright surface with some nicks to edge and some scattered areas of frosting. Hilt retains a pleasing mustard patina with some dark areas and scattered marks from use.
Scabbard shows crazing and losses to surface, mount retains an unpolished patina. A very attractive and rare New Hampshire attributed lion’s head pommel saber.
